Thad Reid Bio
Thad Reid is Virginia. Not only is he a grimy Richmond boulevard, he’s a cracked rural Amherst County road, a rustic Clifton Forge trail and a smoothly paved parkway in Fairfax. Aptly nicknamed, “The Voice”, Reid’s rap style exhibits the depth of Common, the narratives of Ghostface, and the passion of Young Jeezy— all abstractly packaged with a meticulous expression and an unyielding work ethic acknowledged by many of his peers. After achieving three top 3 hits in the US College Radio Charts and gaining rave reviews for his latest project “Target Practice”, Reid is well on his way to building his personal brand in the industry.
Born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia, a rural city about seventy miles south of Charlottesville, Reid’s interest in rhyming started at age 17, during his undergraduate years at James Madison University. In 2006, with his independently released album, “Memorial Day”, Thad would enjoy some minor success highlighted by the Ologist produced “They Don’t Like Me”. Later that year he would follow up with the widely popular mixtape “No Beat is Safe Vol. 2”, and a string of releases over the next four years which would include “No Beat is Safe Vol. 2.7: Blue Collar Muzik”, “No Beat is Safe Vol. 2.7: The B-Sides”, “Commonwealth Muzik”, “The Paid Time Off EP”, and the aforementioned “Target Practice” in 2010. In addition to being featured on several popular media outlets such as djbooth.net, kevinnottingham.com, allhiphop.com, hiphopdx.com, rockthedub.com, and ddotomen.com, Thad has been recognized for several accolades including “Artist You Should Be Listening To” by Flowink.com, “Next 2 Blow” by yoraps.com, “Emerging Artist” by jango.com, and “Artist Spotlight” by KevinNottingham.com.
Driven by melodic soul samples, acoustic drum sounds and electric bass riffs, Thad’s current project, Djbooth.net and KevinNottingham.com present: The Tyme Flys EP, was released digitally January 17, 2012 and features a heavy dose of hard beats and witty wordplay for the true hip-hop aficionado. The project’s most recent single, “Ownma Mind” was released to critical acclaim in December 2011 and was a favorite at the grassroots radio format.
With the release of his eighth studio project Tyme Flys, Thad shows no signs of slowing down. A single deal with German independent imprint YoSoy Music is on the horizon, and he has already started work on his new project, “The Producer’s Corner” series. With a plethora of artists already in the long distance rap race it is important to remember what differentiates Reid from the rest. He is, simply put, who he is. The struggle, the party, the relationship, the intellectual, the lyricist. The Voice of the Commonwealth.
